Been a while for one of these…my bad. Things have gotten kinda crazy and I got off schedule REALLY bad, but I’m back! I asked my mom for a suggestion this week and she gave me one that was so obvious I can’t believe I didn’t think of it myself!

There was a tv show from my childhood that I ADORED. I watched it every Saturday morning when I woke up and had many of the action figures. I often imagined that I was a character from this tv show. If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’ll give you this video.

Yes, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I saw every episode of the tv show and all three movies.

Now you’ll notice that I said THREE movies and not four. This is because I’m not counting that last, cartoon one…

because, although it DID pick up right where the third REAL movie left off, it’s not part of the trilogy and never will be a real ninja turtles movie in my mind and the mind of many others from my generation.

I loved these four turtles (Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello), their trainer (Splinter) and their friends (April O’Neil and Casey Jones). I don’t care how many times I’ve seen the movies (which I own, btw)…I could always watch them again and love them just as much! I even saw a live action stage performance with two of my friends Jared and Quinn when I was in grade school. I was in heaven during it and I came home with a plastic samurai sword (which I later melted on the space heater, lol).

All in all, this tv show/movie was a great chunk of my childhood and I often will still pull the movies out and watch them again…and it’s glorious!

Until next time…God Bless!

So I’ve been out of town at camp for a week and got to spend a few days this week in North Carolina with my fiance, Anna. And NOW, I’m back in good old Hampton Roads and kept reminding myself all day to write this post…only to forget until now. I’m still new to this “scheduled posts” thing so give me a break!

One thing that always comes to mind when I think about my childhood was spending most of that childhood at my neighbor’s house. When I was a kid, I wasn’t allowed to leave “the block”. I could only ride my bike around this block and couldn’t go past it to play outside. Seeing how pretty much NONE of my friends lived close enough to me, I had a very close friendship with my neighbor, Samantha (Sammy). We were basically inseparable basically all the way through high school. She was months younger than me, but in a grade below me.

I tell that little story to talk about this week’s item. Every day before I would go over to Sammy’s house, I would have to put on my “play shoes”.  They looked like this…

They weren’t necessarily Vans shoes…and knowing how quickly I usually went through a pair, they were most likely a very cheap pair of shoes. I loved my slip-ons and wore them any chance I could get. I would usually have to be told to take them off if we were going somewhere that required a bit more dressy attire. The day came when I grew up enough that I no longer wanted to wear my slip-on shoes, but I wanted to wear my “big boy” shoes that I could tie up all by myself. Years down the road after wearing dozens of big boy shoes, I’m back in the habit of wearing sandals and other kinds of slip-on shoes as much as possible. Especially my TOMS!

If anyone else has a pair of shoes like this that they wore ALL THE TIME, let me know

Until next time…God bless!
